How to check E-Chalan
E-Challan is an electronic version of the traditional challan system, which simplifies the process of paying fines for traffic violations online.
It is part of the government’s initiative to streamline traffic management and ensure transparency in fine collection.
Checking your E-Challan status online is easy, and this step-by-step guide will walk you through the process.
Step 1: Access the Official E-Challan Website
To check your E-Challan, you’ll need to visit the official portal.
Follow these steps:
- Open your browser (Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari, etc.).
- Type “E-Challan Parivahan” into the search bar or directly visit the official website: echallan.parivahan.gov.in
This is the central platform used to manage E-Challans across India, and it allows you to easily check the status of your fines.
Step 2: Navigate to the ‘Check Challan Status’ Option
Once you’re on the homepage of the Parivahan E-Challan website:
- Look for the “Check Challan Status” tab, usually located at the top or on the home screen.
- Click on it to be taken to the page where you can enter the necessary details to search for your E-Challan.
Step 3: Enter Your Required Details
On the challan status page, you’ll need to provide certain details to retrieve the record.
The website typically allows three ways to search for E-Challan information:
- Challan Number:
- If you have received a notification for a challan, use the specific challan number mentioned in the notice.
- Vehicle Registration Number:
- You can search using your vehicle’s registration number if you do not have the challan number.
- Driving License Number:
- Some portals allow you to search using your driver’s license number.
Steps:
- Select one of the options for searching:
- If you have your Challan Number, select that option.
- If you want to search by Vehicle Number, select that.
- Some states allow you to search using your Driving License Number as well.
- Enter the number carefully in the required field. For example:
- Vehicle Registration Number: DL01AB1234
- Challan Number: 202112345678
- Driving License Number: DL12345678901234
- After entering the relevant information, fill out the CAPTCHA code (a security measure to ensure you’re not a bot).
- Click on the “Get Details” or “Submit” button to proceed.
Step 4: Review Your E-Challan Details
Once you submit the details, the system will display your E-Challan record, if available.
The details shown will typically include:
- Challan Number:
- A unique identification number for the E-Challan.
- Violation Description:
- Information on the traffic rule you violated.
- Date and Time of Violation:
- The exact time and date when the offense occurred.
- Location of Violation:
- Where the violation took place.
- Fine Amount:
- The penalty amount you are required to pay.
- Payment Status:
- Whether the fine is still unpaid or has been cleared.
Take time to review these details thoroughly. If no E-Challan is found, the system will inform you that there are no pending challans associated with your vehicle or license.
Step 5: Pay the E-Challan Online (If Applicable)
If you have outstanding E-Challans, you can pay them immediately through the portal.
The steps are straightforward:
- Click on the “Pay Now” option next to the unpaid challan.
- You’ll be redirected to a payment gateway, where you can choose from several payment options such as:
- Credit or Debit Card
- Net Banking
- UPI (Unified Payments Interface)
- Mobile Wallets (Google Pay, Paytm, etc.)
- Enter your payment details carefully and confirm the payment. After successful completion, the payment status will be updated.
- Ensure that you save or note down the payment reference number for future reference.
Step 6: Download or Print the E-Challan Receipt
After completing the payment, you will have the option to download or print a receipt.
This is important to keep as proof of payment, especially if required by authorities or for personal records.
- Look for the “Download Receipt” button on the payment confirmation page.
- Save the receipt as a PDF or take a screenshot for future reference.
Step 7: Set Up Notifications (Optional)
Some E-Challan websites allow users to set up notifications or reminders for any new challans issued.
It’s a good idea to activate these notifications if you frequently drive in high-traffic areas or wish to stay informed of any traffic violations.
- Sign up with your email or mobile number (if the feature is available).
- You will be alerted to any future challans and can stay on top of potential fines.
