e-Challan Online Check

How to get E-Challan verification by vehicle number

Verifying your E-Challan by vehicle number is a quick and efficient way to check if there are any traffic fines associated with your vehicle.

This method is especially useful if you don’t have a challan number on hand but want to ensure your vehicle is not flagged for any violations.

Follow this detailed step-by-step guide to verify your E-Challan using your vehicle number.

Step 1: Visit the Official E-Challan Website

The first step is to access the official E-Challan portal provided by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways in India.

  1. Open your web browser (such as Chrome, Firefox, or Safari).
  2. Enter the URL: echallan.parivahan.gov.in in the address bar and press Enter.
  3. This will take you to the homepage of the Parivahan E-Challan system, which is the official portal for checking and paying challans online.

Step 2: Navigate to the ‘Check Challan Status’ Section

Once you are on the E-Challan homepage, the next step is to find the section where you can check the status of your challan.

  1. Look for the option labeled “Check Challan Status” on the home page.
  2. Click on it to proceed to the next page, where you’ll be prompted to enter the necessary details.

Step 3: Select ‘Vehicle Number’ as the Search Option

On the Check Challan Status page, you will see three different options to search for your challan:

  • Challan Number
  • Vehicle Number
  • Driving License Number

Since you want to verify using your vehicle number, proceed as follows:

  1. Choose the “Vehicle Number” option by selecting it from the available options.
  2. A box will appear for you to input your vehicle’s registration number.

Step 4: Enter Your Vehicle Registration Number

Now that you’ve selected the vehicle number option, you will need to enter your vehicle’s registration details.

  1. Type your vehicle’s registration number exactly as it appears on your vehicle documents. Make sure to include the state code, district code, and the unique number, like this: MH12AB1234.
  2. Double-check that the number is correct, as an incorrect number may return no results or incorrect details.

Step 5: Complete the CAPTCHA Verification

To proceed with your challan status verification, the system will require you to complete a CAPTCHA, which is a simple test to prove you are not a robot.

  1. Look for the CAPTCHA image on the screen.
  2. Enter the characters or numbers shown in the image in the provided box.
  3. Ensure the CAPTCHA is entered correctly before moving to the next step.

Step 6: Click on ‘Get Details’

After entering your vehicle number and completing the CAPTCHA, you’re ready to view your challan details.

  1. Click the “Get Details” button.
  2. The system will process your request and display any challans associated with the vehicle number you entered.

Step 7: Review Your E-Challan Information

Once the system retrieves the details, a list of challans (if any) associated with your vehicle will appear on the screen.

The following information will typically be displayed:

  • Challan Number:
    • A unique identification number for each challan.
  • Violation Type:
    • A description of the traffic rule or law you violated.
  • Location of Violation:
    • The area or street where the violation occurred.
  • Date and Time:
    • When the violation took place.
  • Fine Amount:
    • The total penalty associated with the challan.
  • Payment Status:
    • Whether the fine is paid or unpaid.

It’s crucial to carefully review these details to ensure that they correspond to your vehicle’s movements and actions.

Step 8: Pay the E-Challan Online (If Applicable)

If you find any unpaid challans associated with your vehicle number, it’s best to settle them immediately to avoid additional fines or penalties.

You can pay your challan directly through the E-Challan portal.

  1. Locate the unpaid challan(s) and click on the “Pay Now” button next to the challan details.
  2. You will be redirected to a secure payment gateway where you can choose your preferred payment method.
    • Credit/Debit Card
    • Net Banking
    • UPI Payment (via Google Pay, PhonePe, etc.)
  3. Enter the payment details and confirm the transaction.
  4. Once the payment is successful, a receipt will be generated for your reference. Make sure to save the receipt as proof of payment.

Step 9: Download or Save the Challan Receipt

After successfully paying the challan, it’s essential to save the receipt for future reference.

This receipt serves as proof of your payment in case of any discrepancies or legal requirements later on.

  1. Click on the “Download Receipt” option.
  2. You can either save the receipt as a PDF or take a screenshot for your records.
  3. It’s also a good idea to print a copy of the receipt for safekeeping.

Step 10: Recheck the Payment Status (Optional)

To ensure that your payment has been properly recorded, you can recheck your challan status after a few hours or the next day.

This will confirm that the status has been updated to paid.

  1. Simply repeat the steps outlined above to verify your vehicle’s challan status.
  2. If everything is in order, your challan will be marked as paid in the system.

Step 11: Set Up Alerts for Future Challans (Optional)

To stay informed about any future challans or violations, you can set up alerts via SMS or email through some regional authorities.

This ensures you never miss a challan and can act promptly to avoid late fees or legal issues.
