How to Check Vehicle Fitness Status: Step-by-Step Guide

In India, checking your vehicle’s fitness status is a crucial task to ensure that your vehicle complies with safety and environmental regulations. Here’s a simple, step-by-step guide to check your vehicle’s fitness status:

Step 1: Visit the Official Vahan Portal

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) provides an online platform called Vahan to access vehicle-related information. Follow these steps:

  1. Open your web browser and go to the official Vahan portal: Parivahan.

Step 2: Access Vehicle Fitness Status

Once on the Vahan portal:

  1. From the homepage, select the “Online Services” tab.
  2. Click on “Vehicle Fitness Status” to check the fitness of your vehicle.

Step 3: Enter Vehicle Details

You will be prompted to enter the following details of your vehicle:

  • Vehicle Registration Number
  • Engine Number (if required)
  • Chassis Number (if required)

This information can be found on your vehicle registration document.

Step 4: Check Fitness Status

Once you’ve entered the details, the system will display the fitness status of your vehicle, including:

  • The expiry date of the fitness certificate.
  • Whether the vehicle is fit or unfit for use on the road.

Step 5: Offline Verification (if necessary)

If you prefer offline verification or face any issues with the online system, visit your local Regional Transport Office (RTO). You can check your vehicle’s fitness status by providing the required documents.
