How to check E-Chalan
E-Challan is an electronic format of the traffic fine or penalty issued by traffic authorities when a driver violates road rules.
With the advancement of technology in India, traffic violations are now monitored through cameras and issued electronically, making it easier for you to check and pay your fines.
This step-by-step guide will walk you through how to check your E-Challan online in a simple and convenient manner.
Step 1: Access the Official E-Challan Website
The first step is to visit the official Parivahan E-Challan portal.
This website is managed by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways in India and provides a safe and official way to check and pay traffic fines online.
Make sure you are using the official site to avoid scams or unauthorized services.
Step 2: Find the “Check Challan Status” Option
On the homepage, you will see several options. Look for the “Check Challan Status” option and click on it.
This will allow you to view any pending E-Challans associated with your vehicle or driving license.
Step 3: Choose the Method for Checking
The E-Challan system provides you with three different methods to check the status of your traffic fines.
You can select any of the following methods based on what details you have:
- Challan Number:
- If you already have the Challan number from a notification or slip.
- Vehicle Number:
- If you want to check by entering your vehicle’s registration number.
- Driving License (DL) Number:
- If you want to check for fines linked to your driving license.
Step 4: Enter the Required Information
Depending on which method you choose, you will need to enter the correct details in the required field:
- Vehicle Number:
- If you are using your vehicle registration number, enter it exactly as it appears on your RC (e.g., DL2CAX1234).
- Challan Number:
- If you have an E-Challan number, enter the exact digits as provided in the notice.
- Driving License (DL) Number:
- If you are checking via your driving license number, input the full DL number (e.g., DL-0420110000000).
Make sure the information is correct to retrieve the proper records.
Step 5: Complete the CAPTCHA
To proceed, you will be asked to complete a simple CAPTCHA challenge.
This step ensures that the request is being made by a human and not an automated bot.
Solve the CAPTCHA and press “Get Details” to move forward.
Step 6: View Your E-Challan Details
Once the information is submitted, the system will display any E-Challans linked to the details you entered.
You will be able to view:
- Challan Number:
- Unique number for each violation.
- Offense Date:
- The date when the traffic rule was violated.
- Location of Offense:
- The place where the violation occurred.
- Violation Type:
- The specific traffic rule broken (e.g., speeding, red light violation).
- Fine Amount:
- The amount you are required to pay.
If no E-Challans are found, a message will indicate that there are no pending fines for your vehicle or license.
Step 7: Pay the E-Challan (If Applicable)
If there are any pending fines, you can pay them directly on the website.
To pay the fine:
- Select the Challan:
- Choose the specific E-Challan you wish to settle from the list.
- Choose Payment Method:
- The portal allows you to pay using various online payment options like debit/credit cards, UPI, or net banking.
- Confirm Payment:
- Review the details and confirm your payment.
After payment, you will receive a confirmation receipt.
Download or print this for your records.
Step 8: Verify the Payment
Once you’ve made the payment, the system might take a few hours to update the status of your E-Challan.
You can check back later by following the same steps to ensure that the status has been marked as “Paid.”
