How to get high security registration plate

High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) are specially designed number plates made of aluminum, equipped with a unique laser-etched code, a hot-stamped hologram of the Ashoka Chakra, and a non-removable snap lock. HSRPs are mandatory for all vehicles in India as per the Government of India’s regulations. They are designed to prevent vehicle theft, standardize vehicle identification, and ensure easy tracking. The process to get an HSRP is straightforward and can be completed online through authorized portals.

Below is a detailed step-by-step guide on how to get your High Security Registration Plate (HSRP):

Step 1: Access the Official HSRP Website for Your State

  • Go to the official HSRP website that serves your state or union territory. Some of the official portals include:
    • Other States: For other states, you can usually find a dedicated HSRP portal linked from the Parivahan website
Note: Select the portal that corresponds to your state of vehicle registration.

Step 2: Select the “Book HSRP” Option

  • Once on the official HSRP website, look for the option to “Book HSRP” or “Order HSRP Online”.
  • Click on the link, and it will direct you to the registration page.

Step 3: Enter Your Vehicle Details

  • On the registration page, you will be prompted to enter specific vehicle details, including:
    • Vehicle Registration Number
    • Chassis Number (last five digits)
    • Engine Number (last five digits)
    • Owner Name
    • Mobile Number
    • Email Address
  • Ensure that all the details are filled in accurately, as any errors could lead to delays in processing your HSRP.

Step 4: Choose the Type of Plate and Color Code

  • Select the type of HSRP you need:
    • Front and Rear Plates (mandatory for all vehicles).
    • Third License Plate Sticker (a color-coded sticker for BS-IV and BS-VI vehicles).
  • The color of the third sticker will indicate the type of fuel used in the vehicle:
    • Petrol and CNG: Light blue color
    • Diesel: Orange color

Step 5: Enter Your Vehicle Category and RTO Location

  • Choose the vehicle category (e.g., car, bike, commercial vehicle).
  • Select the RTO location where your vehicle is registered.
  • After this, you will be asked to choose the fitment location for the HSRP installation. Many portals offer multiple authorized dealers and RTOs where you can get the plate fitted.

Step 6: Select the Appointment Slot

  • Choose a convenient appointment date and time for visiting the fitment center to have your HSRP installed.
  • Some portals also provide a home delivery and fitment option, but this is subject to availability and extra charges.

Step 7: Make the Payment

  • The next step is to make the payment for your HSRP. The cost of the High Security Registration Plate varies depending on the vehicle type and state, but generally, it ranges from:
    • ₹400 to ₹600 for two-wheelers.
    • ₹1,000 to ₹1,500 for four-wheelers.
  • Select your preferred payment option (credit card, debit card, net banking, or UPI), and complete the transaction.

Step 8: Receive Confirmation and Reference Number

  • After making the payment, you will receive a payment receipt and a reference number on your registered email and mobile number.
  • This reference number is crucial as it will be used for tracking your order and during your appointment.

Step 9: Visit the Fitment Center on the Chosen Date

  • On the scheduled appointment date, visit the chosen fitment center or RTO with the following documents:
    • Original Registration Certificate (RC).
    • Appointment Confirmation Slip.
    • Payment Receipt.
  • The HSRP installation generally takes 15 to 30 minutes, and you can wait at the center until the process is complete.

Step 10: Affixation and Final Verification

  • Once the HSRP is affixed to your vehicle, the installation center will provide you with a fitment certificate or a confirmation slip.
  • Verify that the laser-etched code, hologram, and other details on the plate are clear and correct.
  • If you ordered the third color-coded sticker, ensure that it is correctly placed on the windshield.

Important Points to Remember

  1. HSRP is Mandatory: As per the Motor Vehicles Act, it is mandatory for all vehicles (new and old) to have High Security Registration Plates.
  2. Book Only from Authorized Websites: Avoid third-party websites or brokers to ensure you get a genuine HSRP.
  3. Keep Your Documents Ready: Ensure that your RC and other vehicle details are correct before making an HSRP application.
  4. Penalties for Non-Compliance: Driving without an HSRP can result in fines or penalties as per your state’s regulations.
