How to check Vahan tax

Checking your Vahan tax status is essential to ensure that your vehicle’s road tax is up-to-date and to avoid potential fines or penalties. The process can be done easily online through the Vahan Parivahan portal, which is managed by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. This step-by-step guide will walk you through how to check your Vahan tax status and other vehicle-related details.

Step 1: Visit the Official Vahan Website

  • Open your browser and go to the official Vahan Parivahan portal: Vahan Parivahan Sewa.
  • This is the central platform for all vehicle-related services and information in India, including tax status checks, vehicle registration, and other services.

Step 2: Click on “Know Your Payment Status”

  • On the homepage, navigate to the “Know Your Payment Status” option. This will help you check the payment status of your road tax and any other fees associated with your vehicle.
  • The link is typically found under the “Online Services” section or can be accessed directly through the Know Your Payment Status Page.

Step 3: Enter Your Vehicle Registration Number

  • You will be prompted to enter your Vehicle Registration Number (e.g., DL12AB1234) in the designated field.
  • Make sure to enter the registration number exactly as it appears on your vehicle registration certificate (RC), including the state code and all characters.

Step 4: Enter the Last Five Digits of the Chassis Number

  • After entering your vehicle registration number, you will be asked to provide the last five digits of your chassis number. This can be found on your vehicle’s RC or other documentation.
  • This step ensures that only the vehicle owner or an authorized person can access the details.

Step 5: Click on “Submit”

  • Once you have entered both the vehicle registration number and the last five digits of the chassis number, click on the “Submit” button.
  • The system will take a few moments to retrieve your vehicle details from the Vahan database.

Step 6: View Your Vehicle’s Tax Payment Status

  • After submission, you will see a screen displaying your vehicle’s tax payment status.
  • This will include information such as current tax status, tax validity date, and whether any tax dues are pending.

Step 7: Download or Print the Details

  • If needed, you can download or print a copy of your vehicle’s tax details for future reference.
  • It is recommended to keep a copy handy, especially if you are planning to travel interstate or need to present proof of tax payment.

Alternative Method: Using the Parivahan Website

If the Vahan site is not accessible, you can also check your vehicle’s tax status on the Parivahan website:

  1. Visit the Official Parivahan Website: Go to Parivahan Sewa.
  2. Click on “Vehicle Related Services”: Navigate to the “Vehicle Related Services” section on the homepage.
  3. Select Your State and RTO Office: Choose the state and the specific RTO under which your vehicle is registered.
  4. Enter Vehicle Registration Number: Input your registration number and click “Proceed”.
  5. Check Tax Status: After retrieving the details, look for the “Tax Details” or “Check Tax Status” option to view your vehicle’s tax payment status.

Important Points to Remember

  1. Double-Check the Registration Number: Ensure that your vehicle registration number and chassis number are correctly entered to get accurate results.
  2. Tax Status Verification: Always verify the tax status if you recently made a payment to confirm that it has been updated in the system.
  3. Keep Your RC Handy: Make sure to have your vehicle’s Registration Certificate (RC) and other documents available in case you need to refer to specific details like the chassis number.
